Anime Review 001: Ghost Hunt

Synopsis:

Ghost Hunt follows the ghost hunting adventures of Mai Taniyama, a first year high school student, who becomes involved with the Shibuya Psychic Research Center (SPR) and its young manager, Kazuya Shibuya. When Mai accidentally injures Shibuya's assistant Lin Koujo, and breaks an expensive video camera being used by SPR in an investigation at her school, she works as a part-time assistant with SPR to repay her debt.

Mai nicknames Kazuya Shibuya "Naru" because she believes he has a narcissistic attitude, and the nickname is generally adopted by all those who come to eventually work with SPR on their paranormal cases: a Buddhist monk, Houshou Takigawa; a shrine maiden, Ayako Matsuzaki; a famous psychic, Masako Hara; and Catholic Priest, John Brown. Later in the series, they are assisted by a third-year high school student, Osamu Yasuhara (who works as an assistant beside Mai) and by Mori Madoka, Naru's mentor.

Ghost Hunt also explores the paranormal abilities of the characters, particularly focusing on Mai's "latent psychic abilities," demonstrated by her dreaming about information relevant to their cases. She is often joined in her dreams by someone who she assumes to be Naru acting as a spirit guide, but whom is later revealed to be someone quite unexpected.

Review: 9/10 *Spoiler Alert*

It's a masterpiece, as describe in the synopsis, it is about Ghost Hunting!! Paranormal researchers hunting down ghost based on request from their clients. OK, first you might find this boring if you watch on usual weekly per episode.. but if watched in a marathon style, you will know what i mean. You may find the information on here is real and is widely used in the real world.

First, is how they brought the story to their audience, there's many arc in this, for example, a certain client came and ask for their service, one story and it's about 3-4 eps.. and all of the cases are not the same as different case deals with different things... it can be usual ghost, poltergeist, curse, or something else.. what good about it is that as the story progress, things got better and better as also with the development of main character.

As for the character, i dont hate the main male character, i dont hate the main female character and i dont hate anybody which is on the team. Yup, as you can see, later on, the SPR will hire their exorcist to deal with it and what's good with it is the mix of people of people they brought into... as different people have their own style, it adds the sense of variety.

Another thing, we're talking about ghost hunting... well ghost are supposed to be scary but some say anime ghost are not.. but wait till you get until the middle of the 2nd half of the story, try tell me you're not scared after you watch that case.. XD

Owh, i forgot, why i gave a 9 not 10 is probably due to the fact that this was based on novel which was released from 1989-1992.. and you may found the feeling "I want more!!!!!!" but cruelly there's none left as all of the material have been made to anime...
